About
We build one thing, for the restaurants nobody builds for.
ComplyMenu is digital food-safety record keeping for independent restaurants — the fix for the clipboard on the walk-in door. It is deliberately single-purpose, and this page is about why.
The clipboard is not a record. It is a memory test.
Nearly every independent kitchen already keeps temperature logs. The problem is not that nobody writes anything down — it is when it gets written down.
A clipboard on the walk-in door gets filled in at the end of a shift, from memory, by someone who is tired and wants to go home. The numbers look plausible because they were chosen to look plausible. Every entry is in the same pen, in the same hand, and they are all a little too neat. An inspector can spot that page from across the kitchen, and so can a lawyer.
That is the actual failure. Not laziness — a system that asks people to remember something at the exact moment they are least able to, and then quietly accepts whatever they write. ComplyMenu records the reading when it is taken, stamps it with the time and the person who took it, and stops pretending the rest.
What we refuse to do
Most of what makes a tool good is what it leaves out. These are the decisions we have already made, so you do not have to wonder about them later.
We do not invent rules.
The app enforces the FDA Food Code as written — two-stage cooling under §3-501.14, receiving temperatures under §3-202.11. Where the Code sets no number, neither do we. Frozen deliveries are the clearest case: the Code requires them to arrive frozen and gives no temperature, so ComplyMenu asks whether the product arrived solid rather than inventing a threshold. An operator quoting our number to an inspector would be quoting us, not the regulator.
Unknown is never a pass.
A blank reading is not a compliant one. A delivery in a category that has a legal limit cannot be recorded as within spec without a measurement, and an out-of-range reading cannot be saved without a corrective action written against it. A record that quietly rounds doubt up to “fine” is worse than no record, because you would rely on it.
We do not sell you hardware.
No sensors, no probes, no gateway, no proprietary tablet. ComplyMenu runs in the browser on whatever device is already in your kitchen. Hardware is how compliance tools reach four figures a month, and it is the first thing that breaks in a room with steam and grease in it.
We do not bundle.
No scheduling, no labelling, no training modules, no payroll. Enterprise platforms are built for chains and priced accordingly, and everything they add is something you pay for and step around. ComplyMenu does the clipboard’s job properly for one restaurant and stops there.
We do not charge per person.
One flat price per location, per month. Add every member of staff — the whole point is that the person holding the thermometer is the person logging the reading. A tool that bills by headcount teaches you to share one login, which destroys the only thing that made the record worth keeping.
We do not watch you.
No analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no session recorders, no third-party JavaScript of any kind. Every script the site loads is served from our own domain, and an automated check in our release process fails if that ever stops being true. Your records are compliance evidence, not an audience to be resold.
Built for the room it is used in
Software for restaurants is usually designed as though it will be used at a desk. It will not be. It will be used one-handed, standing up, in a cold room, by someone mid-shift.
So checks log without a signal — walk-ins are wifi dead zones, and a reading taken there is saved on the device and sent by itself once the connection returns, with a safeguard that makes it impossible for the same check to be recorded twice. Every control is sized to be hit with a thumb. And the app watches for the failure nobody catches by eye: a cooler that passes every single day while climbing a degree a fortnight, on its way to a compressor failure and a night’s stock in the bin.
When an inspector does arrive, the whole record comes out as one document with the corrective actions attached to the readings that caused them — the version you would have assembled by hand, already assembled.
